Thank you! The corset in the picture is not for sale as it is my personal piece but I do make custom corset. I can recreate this specific style or apply the diagonal cut to a different underbust, midbust or overbust shape.
Are they uneven in terms of the gathered fabric/ribbon or is the length of the suspenders uneven. For suspender length well measure carefully not much too it but if the problem is with the uneven gathering of the fancy fabric/ribbon that maybe the width of the channel is too narrow or uneven or the stitches are uneven.
thanks for the reply i think i made the channels too narrow. Ive started of just elaborating existing corsets that ive picked up cheap on ebay. Want to add gathered shoulders and trims. any books you would advise
For corset making Linda Sparks "The Basics of Corset Building" it is a how to sew together a corset. (I don't own it but I did get a chance to see the content...it is great for beginners) Robert Doyle "Waisted efforts" mostly about pattern making for corsets and such (I don't own that one because it is a bit too expensive for now). Jill Salen "Corsets - Historical Patterns and Techniques" is a collection of corset patterns taken from antique corsets. Norah Waugh "Corsets and Crinolines" has a nice collection of patterns that need to be enlarged and modified to desired measurements.
For basic sewing I can't recommend any book on English since I don't have any. All are in Croatian so not a big help. But you can pick up any book available in your book store on the theme of sewing. Some stuff isn't written in books...you learn from experience. Also check out Foundations Revealed... that is an online magazine (it is a pay site) dedicated to corsets and underwear. They have articles, pattern, different methods of making this and that written by corset makers for corset makers. They have some free articles on the site so check it out. It may interest you.
Thank you very much! I still don't have an online shop but if you are interested I will open it around the beginning of 2012. I know it is a long wait I really want to do it right and not rush into things.
The look isn't actually all that original. There are antique corsets with diagonal seams and the idea behind making this corset for Foundation Revealed was to get a better idea how and why did this type of corset came to be. [link] is an example of an antique diagonal seam corset where the diagonals are very clear and easy to see. There are a few more available online.
